Rúni M. Hansen is the Executive Chairman of the industrial holding company Tjaldur. He is also chairman of Bakkafrost, a leading producer of top quality salmon. He has served as Bakkafrost’s Chairman of the Board of Directors since 2009 and was in charge of the listing of Bakkafrost on the Oslo Stock Exchange (OSE) in 2010. In 2011 Bakkafrost acquired Havsbrún – a leading producer of fish oil, fish meal and fish feed – and he has served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Havsbrún since. The Bakkafrost group is one of the world's most vertically integrated salmon farming companies. Bakkafrost controls all aspects of production – from feed to finished value added products.
Rúni M. Hansen has had extensive experience in the international oil and gas industry during his 19 years in Statoil – now Equinor – from 1997 to 2016. From 2012 to 2016 he was Head of Statoil’s Arctic Unit and a member of Statoil's Worldwide Exploration Executive Team. For a number of years he was the Country Manager for Statoil, in charge of operations in the Faroes and Greenland, including operated drilling campaigns. He has also been the Manager of Commercial and Negotiations for Europe and North Africa in Statoil. During his time in Statoil, he has been based in Copenhagen, London, Oslo, and The Faroe Islands.
Prior to Statoil he was in the shipping and seafood industry.
From 2002 to 2008, he served as Chairman of Vónin, a supplier of services and equipment to fisheries, aquaculture, and offshore, and as its Director from 1999 to 2008. He also served as Deputy Chairman of Føroya Banki (BankNordik) from 2003 to 2006 and as its Director from 1999 to 2006.
He is member of The UN Global Compact’s Platform for Sustainable Ocean Business. He was a member of the World Economic Forum´s Global Agenda Council on the Arctic in the Period 2012 - 2016.
